Meet the AUO

The Australian Ukulele Orchestra often has changes to its line-up depending on circumstances and commitments. Previous players have included: Ruth Allen, Anne Keogh, Julie Montague, Janine Shearer, Cynthia Sleight-Myles, Janet Raine, Andrew Smith and Cathy Welsford.

The current members of the AUO are:

Ian

Ian is the Musical Director and founder of the AUO. He has been a musician for over 40 years originally playing trumpet in the Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra and ukulele for the last 16 years. Ian arranges all the charts for the orchestra, runs workshops and teaches music in the Northern Suburbs of Sydney.

Lyndall

Lyndall is a talented performer based in the eastern suburbs of Sydney. She is a regular performer on the uke festival scene and has been with the AUO from early on. She originally played guitar. When not playing with the AUO she is a dedicated social justice and peace building activist.

Kyoko joined the AUO in 2019 and is based in Western Sydney. With a background in classical guitar, she combines her ukulele talents with beautiful singing. Kyoko is passionate about exploring ukulele techniques and musical expression.

Graeme has been a member of our group since its inception, contributing in a variety of roles over that time. He has been actively involved in a diverse range of music communities across the Sydney, New England, and North Coast regions in folk, rock, orchestral groups and musical theatre. Graeme now holds the bass chair with the AUO.

Lindy is a Botany-based ukulele player, teacher, performer and NIDA graduate with over 30 years experience in the entertainment industry. She runs The Ukulele Circle, and plays across Sydney through community groups, workshops and festivals. She also has her own project- Lindy & the Loose Units.

Steve originally hails from across the ditch (NZ).His musical journey began borrowing his brother’s ukulele while he was at school. By primary, he’d moved to guitar and keyboards, further on that quickly snowballed into gigs with Guy Wishart and CBS artist Darlene Adair. Steve hit the Auckland gig circuit, and recorded an EP at Progressive Studios. Now he's is back where it all started.

Jenny is a graduate from the James Hill Ukulele Initiative and is based on the Northern Beaches in Sydney. She has performed with the Lightly Strung Orchestra as well as co-manages the Australian Ukulele Retreats. Jenny is classically trained on piano and violin and is gifted with a wonderful singing voice.

Alistair is a professional player across percussion and drums, and having worked in multiple disciplines from early music, Renaissance, Orchestral right through to the extremes of the Avant Garde and generally freelancing with everything in between, there isn't much he hasn't done. He currently teaches at a number of Sydney schools and runs www.Maddrumming.com.au
